BMW MOTORRAD AT THE BRITISH MOTORSHOW
Not only is the British Motorshow returning to London in 2006 but
BMW will be making its first appearance for several years and what an
appearance it is going to be.
The show, being held at the Excel
exhibition centre on 20-30 July will feature the incredible BMW Group
Plaza. Occupying much of the outdoor arena, few visitors will fail to
be impressed by the huge display the company are putting on.
Alongside
a large offering of the firm's car range there will be the F1 car, WTCC
Touring Car racer and a full size BMW Oracle America's Cup boat.
However,
stealing at least some of the limelight at the Excel exhibition centre
will be a selection of BMW's two-wheeled stars. While BMW's cars are
universally acknowledged as the 'ultimate driving machines', its bikes
could also be described as the 'ultimate riding machines' with some of
the most technologically advanced and user-friendly motorcycles
currently available.
A selection of the 2006 model range will
be on display and is certain to cause a stir at the show. This includes
one BMW bike that needs no introduction - the new R1200 GS Adventure.
Its predecessor shot to fame as the machine of choice for Ewan McGregor
and Charley Boorman's Long Way Round odyssey. Seasoned globetrotters,
however, have been using BMW's GS range of boxer-engined bikes to take
them around the world for more than a quarter of a century. With the
latest model's 29-litre tank, extra long-travel suspension and
powerful, yet efficient, engine, the new R1200 GS Adventure is the
perfect travel enduro to escape the city, country or even continent.
Joining
the Adventure is the 167 hp four-cylinder K1200 R, currently the most
powerful naked production roadster in the world. The 1200cc machine is
the perfect blend of sportiness and style, with a state-of-the-art
chassis, advanced suspension technology and stripped-down aggressive
styling. The K1200 R gives riders an experience they really won't
forget. It was the star of last year's International Power Cup one-make
racing series and is the machine of choice for many well-known bike
fans, including F1 driver Jacques Villeneuve and former MotoGP star
Jeremy McWilliams, who literally 'smoked' his way up Goodwood's famous
hill on a K1200 R at the Festival of Speed last weekend.
Joining
these two eye-catching bikes is one of BMW's newest offerings, the F800
S. This 800cc parallel-twin sports middleweight machine has been
grabbing the headlines since its launch in May and has proven to be a
resounding hit with both novice and experienced riders, due in no small
part to its fantastic value for money at just £5,995 on the road. Be
sure to take a good look at one of the most popular bikes of 2006 at
the British Motorshow or alternatively in your local BMW Motorrad
dealership.
