MICK GRANT TO OPEN NEW BIKE SHOW
Seven times Isle Of Man TT
winner Mick Grant will mark the opening of the North West Motorcycle
Extravaganza on Saturday 30th September, by riding in to the Haydock
Park venue on one of his legendary GP bikes.
The two-day show
promises to welcome thousands of biking enthusiasts with a large
display of new, used and classic motorcycles, together with many trade
stands selling thousands of bargains. The Xtreme Trials Display Team
will also wow the crowds with their motorcycle stunt routines and a
children’s entertainment area will help to keep the whole family happy.
Born
in Wakefield, Mick Grant will be best known for his Grand Prix wins,
success at the famous Macau Invitational Grand Prix and his
performances as a factory Kawasaki rider during the late seventies and
early eighties. Not only is Mick amongst the most successful of TT
racers, he is unique in being the only man to have tasted victory on
Kawasaki’s, Honda’s and Suzuki’s on the world famous mountain course.
But
it could be the bike that steals the show at Haydock Park. The 4
cylinder, 2 stroke Suzuki RGB500 Mark 8 was ridden by Barry Sheene in
1983 when he returned to racing after an horrific crash at Silverstone
the year before. In 1984, Mick Grant achieved success on the same bike
and then piloted the Suzuki to become British Superstock Champion in
1985.
Since then, the bike was thought to be lost until Tony
Salt, Director of TST Tyres in Warrington, acquired the machine,
authenticated its’ history and spent two years returning it to its’
former glory. Celebrity status now sees both Mick Grant and the Suzuki
making appearances across Europe at motorcycling events. Both man and
machine will be at the show on Saturday 30th September (only) for
anyone who wants to meet and photograph a piece of motorcycling history.
The
North West Motorcycle Extravaganza will be easy to find at Haydock Park
just off junction 23 of the M6 motorway, with the added convenience of
a dedicated bike park and on-site helmet park.
Ticket prices
on the gate (no advance bookings) will be £10.00 for adults and £6.00
for children and senior citizens on Saturday 30th September and Sunday
1st October. The show will be open from 10.00am until 5.30pm on both
days.
