MOTORCYCLE MAGIC AT GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED
 The motorcycle element of the Festival of Speed has gone from strength
to strength, and 2007 is no exception when, over the weekend of the 22
– 24 June, Goodwood celebrates the centenary of the Isle of Man TT
races and 20 Years of the World Superbike Championship.
A huge array of exotic machinery is promised to help celebrate the Isle
of Man centenary. Honda will again be shipping a priceless selection of
historic bike from the Honda Collection Hall in Motegi, Japan to be
ridden by 1960’s legends Jim Redman, Tommy Robb, Ralph Bryans and Stuart Graham – son of TT winner Les Graham and himself the only man to have won TTs on both two wheels and four. In addition, Ron Haslam
– friend and former team mate of Island legend and 26-time TT winner
Joey Dunlop – will ride the Ulsterman’s 2001 SP-1 over the weekend.
There will also be a fantastic selection of important TT machines from
the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum.
Long-standing Festival sponsor BMW will be showing some of its classic
TT winning machines, and will also bring to Goodwood current world
motorcycle stunt riding champion Chris Pfeiffer – who will entertain the crowds with seemingly impossible tricks.
Celebrating the 20th year of World Superbike racing, fans are in for a
treat with past and present stars packing the entry list. Four-time SBK
champion Carl Fogarty makes a welcome return to Goodwood, joined by 2003 SBK Champion, Neil Hodgson, as well as the first British rider to win a SBK race, Terry Rymer, who will ride a Yamaha OWO1 up the hill. Past British wild-card world superbike race winner Michael Rutter
will ride on his 2007 MSS Kawasaki ZX10 over the weekend – the same
bike he is campaigning in this year’s British Superbike Championship.
Several stars from the series who appeared at the 2006 Festival are
also expected to be in action, in many cases with new bikes and new
sponsors. Series leader and ex-champion James Toseland is expected be back aboard his Honda CRR1000RR, alongside current champion Troy Bayliss (Ducati) and another ex-double world champion, Troy Corser,
who has switched from Factory Suzuki to Yamaha this year. Alstare
Corona Suzuki is keen to repeat the success of its first visit to the
Festival last year with four-time world 250cc champion Max Biaggi and British favourite Yukio Kagayama hopefully piloting the Suzuki GSX-R1000 up the hill.
There also promises to be some highly interesting and little seen muscle bikes in action. Confederate will be shipping two their awesome Wraith and Hellcat
machines over from the States, having suffered a last-minute hitch that
prevented their promised attendance last year. Continuing with the
American theme, Buell founder Erik Buell has pledged his
attendance and will ride the unique XBRR race bike campaigned by Jeremy
McWilliams in the US last year, hopefully joined by fellow US muscle
bike constructor Moto Czyzs. Also promised is the extraordinary 1.6-litre Wakan from France.
