BELSTAFF MOTORCYCLE CLOTHING BACK ON SALE IN THE UK
Belstaff, the legendary name in motorcycle clothing, is back
in the UK with a brand new range, that can best be described as “what
happens when you bring Italian design and British heritage together”.
Although
Belstaff can trace its roots back to 1924, when Harry Grosberg founded
the business in Stoke-on-Trent, its products have not been available in
the UK for several years. Following the general decline in UK clothing
manufacturing, production at the Stoke factory ceased in 1991 and the
rights to the Belstaff name were eventually sold in 2004 to The
Clothing Company, based in Italy. Franco Malenotti, a keen motorcyclist
who had been involved in the design of Belstaff products for more than
a decade, runs the new custodians of the Belstaff brand. He set about
developing Belstaff as a high fashion brand, arousing a great deal of
interest in the USA, where garments were continually requested for many
blockbuster films, such as “Batman Begins”, “Tomb Raider II” and “War
of the Worlds”. With the fashion side of the business secure, the
Malenotti turned his attention to creating a completely new motorcycle
range. The Belstaff collection for 2007 contains two distinct ranges,
divided between garments that reflect the brand’s rich heritage and
contemporary riding clothing that incorporates the latest materials and
technologies. Every item in the range is made in Italy, using the
highest quality materials, such as Cordura® and genuine Italian leather.
The
iconic Tourist Trophy jacket is back produced in a choice of
traditional waxed cotton or high tech Dupont Cordura®. Both versions
come with CE impact protectors and removable linings (made from natural
fabrics), with prices starting at £299.99.
For customers
seeking a more contemporary look, Belstaff offer the Rider jacket,
manufactured from soft touch textiles in both 3/4-length and blouson
styles. It has a waterproof and breathable Microdry® inner liner with
CE-approved protectors at shoulder and elbow, but what really makes
this garment stand out from the crowd is the unique Q.A.S (Quick
Adjustment System®). This enables the wearer to adjust the fit
instantly using elasticated drawstring tensioners on the hip arm and
waist. The Rider jacket is available to fit men and women, retail
prices starting at £249.99.
Spearheading the heritage collection
is the Thruxton, a classic replica of a Belstaff jacket from the
1970’s, made in Italy from the finest 1.4mm Italian leather, with an
aged look. Inside is a luxurious scarlet inner lining of 100% natural
viscose, plus CE-approved protectors for confidence when riding. Priced
at £529.99 this stunning piece of kit has to be seen to appreciate the
quality and attention to detail.
There are plenty of other
exciting designs in the range, many including innovative features
developed by Belstaff, and even casual clothing everyday wear, like
sweatshirts and T-shirts. So Belstaff, the little company Harry
Grosberg started back in 1924, is very firmly back and doing what it
always did - making jackets that riders are proud to be seen in. Only
now they’ve teamed the best of Italian design with the best of British
tradition.
