AIRWAVES DUCATI CONFIDENT FOR MALLORY PARK
Round 6 of the British Superbike Championship takes place at Mallory Park this weekend.
After
the event cancellation at Mondello Park in Ireland the Airwaves Ducati
team are looking to get back on form and continue their run of
exceptional performances which has seen them take podium finishes in
the first 4 rounds this season.
The 1.39 mile Leicestershire
circuit is one of the shorter and more demanding circuits in the
championship calendar and with a new chicane added this year it will be
a new challenge for the riders. Last years race was crash strewn with 3
restarts across the two races but the Airwaves Ducati team came away
with 2 podium finishes. Mallory Park was a turning point last year when
Kiyonari had a huge crash in race 1, his championship lead began to
slip away and eventual 2005 BSB Champion Gregorio Lavilla progressed in
his campaign for the title.
After Mondello Park championship
leader Gregorio Lavilla was disappointed about the race cancellation
but was already focused on this round saying, “I am very confident for
Mallory Park, everything is working well at the moment and Mondello
gave us the opportunity to test some things out even though we weren’t
able to race. Last year this circuit was a completely new experience
and nothing like I was used to but I ended up with a podium so I am
hoping that this weekend I can use my experience from last year and
gain more championship points.”
Leon Haslam, who turned 23 this
week, was looking forward to this weekend to take the opportunity to
close in on his team mates’ 61 point championship lead. “We changed the
bike a lot recently and have found a setting I really like, so roll on
this weekend. I really want to achieve some good race results and build
my points total, I have had some great qualifying results and I now
want to convert those to valuable podium places.”
Racing at Mallory Park commences on Sunday 4th June.
