HASLAM & LAVILLA STAY WITH AIRWAVES DUCATI IN BSB
Leon Haslam, the runner up in the 2006 Bennetts British Superbike
Championship, and Gregorio Lavilla, the 2005 British Superbike
Champion, have both re-signed with GSE Racing and will compete in the
British Superbike Championship for a third successive year in 2007.
The team will remain in BSB with continued support from Ducati Corse
who will be providing the team with technically improved Ducati
999F06’s for the second year running. In a successful month, the team
has also re-signed sponsors Wrigley’s Airwaves, Q8Oils and Dunlop.
Having had such a successful season Haslam and Lavilla’s decision to
stay with Airwaves Ducati is exciting news for the whole team and for
next season’s championship. The team celebrated their seasons success
earlier this week when they picked up their award for the 2006
Manufacturers title at the MCRCB awards; Leon was also voted ‘Rider of
the Year’ by his peers in a ceremony held at the Motorcycle Show on
Wednesday.
After receiving his award and confirming his ride for next year Leon
commented, “There have been many stories about where I may or may not
be going to ride in 2007 but my decision to stay with Airwaves Ducati
is due to the success that I have experienced with them this season.
Coming second in the championship was a great achievement for me but I
will be aiming to go one better and win the title with Airwaves Ducati
next year. It is such a great team and I feel confident that I will be
a true contender for the BSB title in 2007 with Airwaves Ducati behind
me.”
His team mate Gregorio Lavilla is also delighted to be staying in the
team with whom he won the title last year, “I have enjoyed my time with
Airwaves Ducati and I am looking forward to staying with them for a
third year. At the start of this year I believed Airwaves Ducati and I
could achieve great things and whilst I was not able to retain my title
this year it has been a very competitive championship. I am looking
forward to more of the same next year when I will be looking to regain
my title.”
Team Manager Colin Wright summed up the mood of the team saying, “We
are delighted to have retained the services of Leon and Greg for a 3rd
year. We are aware that both had generous offers from our competitors
but have declared their loyalty to Airwaves Ducati. The team has
achieved many successes over the past two years and we believe we have
the best riders to regain the British Superbike crown in 2007.”
When asked about the secrets behind one of the most successful teams in
the BSB paddock Colin added, “Continuity in a team is a vital element
for success and we are proud to announce that Wrigley’s Airwaves will
continue as our title sponsor together with technical expertise and
product support from Q8Oils and Dunlop Tyres. I am also very pleased to
say all our team members will remain unchanged for 2007, in all, the
team has a total of 52 years working experience with GSE Racing, this
shows true loyalty and devotion from a team dedicated to the GSE Group
and Darrell Healey”.
