Rain stops play at Mondello

The fifth round of the Bennetts British Superbike championship at Mondello Park in southern Ireland has been cancelled.
Persistent, heavy rain made the conditions too dangerous to race in
with standing water and rivers of water running across the track. The
riders felt the right decision had been made and although they were
disappointed not to race they backed the organisers.
Stuart Higgs, Events Director said "Due to the constant heavy rain we
were unable to prepare the circuit in a suitable manner for
competition. We ran wet warm-up sessions in the morning for the
Supersport, Superbikes and Superstock classes. At 2pm we consulted with
Mondello and Dorna and made a joint decision to cancel the event. The
Superbike races will not be rescheduled. The 125cc race will become a
double-header at Mallory Park. We will make a decision concerning the
Supersport and Superstock races over the next few days."
The MD of Mondello Park, John Morris commented, "We are badly
disappointed for the riders, teams and the fans who made the trip out
to Ireland this weekend. Together with the MCRCB and EMS we tried our
best to clear the track of standing water but to no avail. We tried our
best efforts to put on a show but unfortunately we could not control
the weather. I would like to urge fans to keep hold of their tickets so
that hopefully we may be able to offer some form of discount should
they wish to return next year."
The sixth round of the Bennetts British Superbike championship will be at Mallory Park on 2nd, 3rd and 4th June.
