REA AND LAVERTY AIM FOR THE PODIUM AT SNETTERTON
   Red Bull Honda riders Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty head to Snetterton this
weekend (17/18 June) with their sights set on podium finishes in round seven of the
Bennetts British Superbike Championship and British Supersport Championship
respectively.
Rea is long overdue his maiden podium, after an excellent start to the season that has
seen the 19-year-old consistently challenge the front-runners. The Louth-based rider
will be encouraged by an impressive official test at Snetterton in March where he
finished fourth quickest on his Dunlop-shod Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade.
Rea will also be trying to regain some of the championship points he lost when he
crashed out from a formidable third place in race one at Mallory Park. Although the
Red Bull rider currently lies sixth in the championship, his form suggests that he could
climb back up the standings.
Meanwhile, team-mate Eugene Laverty will be looking to reclaim first place in the British
Supersport championship from fellow Honda CBR600RR rider Cal Crutchlow. The 20-
year-old relinquished his championship lead at Mallory Park after an unfortunate
incident that saw the talented rider crash out while challenging for first on the final lap.
This was the only round this season that Laverty has not been on the podium, a result
that he will be keen to rectify this weekend.
Jonathan Rea: “I know I can do it, I know I can finish on that rostrum. We should be
strong around here this weekend and if I come away with a podium finish I will be
delighted. Everything is working well and I just want to reward the team with a top three
finish.”
Eugene Laverty: “Although on paper I can reclaim the lead this weekend, I’m 24 pointsshy of Cal. I know it will be hard work, so I will be concentrating on closing the gap and
finishing back on the rostrum.”
Havier Beltran: “Both riders were unfortunate last time out but the guys have put that
behind them and we are confident that they will both do well this weekend. To have a
pair of podium finishes would be perfect but as we have seen anything can happen out
there!”
Qualifying for the British Superbike Championship takes place on Saturday 17 June at
14.45. Race One takes place at 13.15 on Sunday 18 June with race two at 15.45.
Qualifying for the British Supersport Championship takes place at 09.35 and 13.55 on
Saturday 17 June with racing at 14.05 on Sunday 18 June.
