The 2006 Isle of Man TT Festival got
underway on Saturday 27th May, the first extended solo session
of 2006 took place in dry but extremely blustery conditions.
For Team Black Horse rider Mark Buckley, the
2006 Isle of Man TT is his inaugural visit to the world famous
motorcycling event and as a newcomer, Mark is welcoming the advice of
team mate and seven times Isle of Man TT winner and lap record holder,
Ian Lougher.
At little after 18.15 hrs the Newcomers
session kicked off the 2006 Isle Of Man TT races under guidance
from the experienced TT course travelling marshals, Mark Buckley
successfully completing the supervised lap onboard the Team Black Horse
Superstock Fireblade.
Keen to take advantage of the dry
conditions, Lougher got away early in the following solo session
on the Stobart Motorsport Honda Superbike, initially, the Welshman put
in one lap of the 37.73 mile mountain circuit before returning
the machine to the paddock to make some changes to the suspension
set-up. While technicians worked on the Stobart Motorsport Superbike,
Lougher put in his first and only lap of the evening on the Team Black
Horse Honda Fireblade Superstock machine.
After returning to refuel, Buckley continued
to circulate steadily on the Team Black Horse Honda Fireblade
Superstock bike, before changing to the Team Black Horse Supersport
Honda CBR600RR machine, on which he rode until the close of the session.
At the conclusion of the first evening of
solo practice, Lougher had completed four laps in total, posting the
fourth fastest time of the night on the Stobart Motorsport Superbike at
19.12.40, his single Superstock lap with a time of 19.57.30 was the 9th
quickest of the evening.
Ian Lougher: -
"Considering the conditions I am happy with our progress on the first
night of practice. We concentrated on the Superbike as it’s an unknown
quantity around the TT, but we have already got a good feeling from the
machine and I am confident of increasing the pace throughout practice
week. We obviously have a good set up for the Superstock machine from
2005 and although we only got one lap in on the bike it felt good.
Monday night again we aim to put in a more laps on the Stobart
Motorsport Superbike and also qualify the Team Black Horse Supersport
600"
Mark Buckley:
- " It's my first time here at the TT and it’s proving to be a
massive learning curve for me but I'm pleased with the way I'm learning
the circuit so far. I managed to get three laps in on the Team Black
Horse Superstock machine and one lap on the Supersport and I am really
looking forward to Monday nights practice session"
