KAWASAKI CELEBRATES WITH RACING LEGENDS AT CENTENARY TT
Kawasaki
is hosting a special racing legends display for this year’s Centenary TT. In the Grandstand area, visitors will be able
to see stars of the current range of Kawasaki
road bikes, including the eagerly anticipated 1400GTR Supertourer, and for the
racing enthusiasts, a special display will celebrate Kawasaki’s considerable racing heritage.
In the Racing Legends area that forms part of the Kawasaki stand next to
the Hailwood Riders Centre behind the TT Grandstand, four significant racing
machines from the past will be on display during race week. Rarely seen outside of private collections,
these machines have been brought together as a group for the very first time at
this year's TT festival. The first of
these is a former TT winning machine, the iconic H2R. Ridden to victory by Mick Grant in the 1975
Senior race, the 750cc two-stroke, triple cylinder will already be familiar to
many TT visitors. In addition, Mick will be on the Kawasaki stand in person at intervals during
race week signing autographs.
Also on display will be the innovative monocoque, four
cylinder, two-stroke KR500 campaigned by Kork Ballington in both British and
World Championships. It will be joined
by a KR250 tandem twin, ridden by the legendary Eddie Lawson who secured wins
at Daytona 200 in both 1980 and 1981.
The final motorcycle will be an historic H1R. This 2-stroke, air-cooled, 500cc three
cylinder machine gave Kawasaki
its first ever 500cc Grand Prix win when Dave Simmonds secured the Spanish GP
win at Jarama in 1971.
“The Centenary of the TT is a major event and Kawasaki is
understandably delighted to be displaying our current road product and our
Racing Legends at the grandstand during race week,” said Martin Lambert,
Kawasaki Motors UK Marketing Manager.
“We hope that TT visitors of all ages and all nationalities will visit
the stand and enjoy sitting on bikes such as the new Z1000 and the 1400GTR. We also hope they will relish the chance to meet
the TT stars -Michael Rutter and Mick Grant, and immerse themselves in Kawasaki’s racing
heritage with our Racing Legends display.”
To commemorate this extraordinary display of historical
machines, Kawasaki
has produced a limited edition souvenir. Kawasaki’s
“Racing Legends” commemorative pack will include details of each machine and
their racing heritage along with a selection of specially commissioned images.
