Troy Bayliss extended his championship lead even further for Xerox Ducati after a spectacular double win at Monza in Italy at the fourth round of the Corona Extra Superbike World Championship.

Second place went to reigning world champion Troy Corser on the Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki with his race one challenger Noriyuki Haga on the Yamaha Italia in third place.

Alex Barros missed out on a podium finish coming home in fourth, he got a bad start and had to work his way up from fourteenth place to fourth. James Toseland and his Winston Ten Kate Honda were looking strong and had been running in third place for some time; unfortunately he faded back down the order to come home fifth.

Quite a few riders had technicals and failed to finish, they were Max Neukirchner, both Petronas riders, Regis Laconi and Yukio Kagayama.
